COVID-19

At In Path Dental, we are always healthy and safe.

In Path Dental was created and built after COVID-19 entered our community, and our facility was designed to be fully compliant with all COVID protocols as outlined by both the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) and Chief Medical Officer of Health  (CDHO).

What health and safety guidelines are we following at In Path Dental?

In path Dental is committed to maintaining the safety of our patients and our team members.

One of our goals was to build a full, pandemic-prepared office with the latest technology and equipment that follows all the new regulations and protocols, to not just to protect our patients and team from the COVID-19 virus, but also any future threat that may present for our health.

We follow the updated safety guidance from the RCDSO and information from the CMOH when providing care during the pandemic.

We thank you for helping us keep our offices safe for everyone. We are all in this together.

You can learn more about COVID-19 and its impact in Canadian’s oral health

Your health and well-being continue to be In Path’s Dental highest priority, even during the pandemic!

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected Canadians in different ways and has likely also interrupted good health habits and daily oral health care routines.

More frequent snacking, consuming more sugary foods and beverages, and not keeping up with regular brushing and flossing are all examples. These habits, combined with delaying visits to the dentist, can have negative impacts on your oral and overall health.

According to a new international study led by McGill University researchers recently published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, infected and inflamed gums may result in higher rates of complications and more fatal outcomes for individuals diagnosed with the SARS-COV-2 virus. The study suggests that gum disease may be associated with higher risks of complications from COVID-19, including ICU admission and death.

Oral hygiene is part of your overall health and it is important to stay on top of it. With a healthy mouth, you can eat, speak, and smile in comfort, which helps you feel physically and mentally well. A healthy mouth helps you enjoy life to the fullest.

Here's what you can expect at In path Dental

The following protocols have been implemented to all regular visits by our team to make you feel secure and to ensure that we do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Booking an Appointment
Appointments will be spaced out to allow physical distancing and disinfecting between patients.

COVID-19 Screening
Shortly after booking your appointment, we will update your contact info. Then, we will be sending you a COVID-19 screening the day before you come in for your appointment. Please complete it and send it back to us as for your records.

What If You Have COVID-19 Symptoms?
If you happen to experience any symptoms that are attributed to potentially having COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone positive within two weeks of your appointment, please stay home. Give us a call to reschedule your appointment or ask about other care options. The sooner, the better!

Once You Arrive at Your Appointment
When you arrive at the appointment, please wait in your vehicle and text us to let us know you have arrived. We will let you know when it is safe to come in. We will screen for Covid-19 symptoms upon arrival at the office.

Wear a Face Mask
Before you enter our office, please wear a mask, covering up those pearly whites. If someone is accompanying you to the appointment, let them know to wear a face mask or cloth face covering as well.

Use Hand Sanitizer
Once you have entered our office, apply hand sanitizers with a 70- to 90-percent alcohol-based solution. Repeat the same procedure when leaving the office. This goes for anyone entering and leaving the office.

Receive a Temperature Check
As part of your COVID-19 screening when you arrive, we will conduct a quick, non-contact temperature check, making sure you don’t have a fever. You will be escorted to your dental treatment room.

Do Not Forget to Rinse
We will ask you to do a pre-procedural rinse before your appointment with a mouthwash containing hydrogen peroxide.

Certified Office with Enhanced Clean Air
We have added HEPA UV air filtration systems to each treatment room to enhance the air we breathe.

Follow Our One Person Per Patient Policy
To limit the number of people in our waiting area at any given time, we request that there only be one parent, guardian or essential person per patient.

Other Safety Measures We Will Have
We will also be keeping our waiting areas free of any high-contact objects, such as toys and magazines. All treatment rooms will be enclosed, with doors closed during the length of the appointment. Also, our dental team will be wearing more enhanced personal protection equipment.

Let’s All Do Our Part
Thanks to these new safety protocols, we can all be part of the solution to flattening the curve and getting through the COVID-19 pandemic. So, go ahead and make an appointment! We would love to see you smile. Let’s all stay safe, in here, out there, and everywhere! In addition to these measurements, there are many other safety precautions that In Path Dental has in place to keep patients and staff protected from any potential of viral transmission. Frequently Asked Questions

Is cosmetic dentistry expensive?

At In Path Dental, we create dental treatment plans according to your needs with different treatment options to ensure our patients are able to receive the services they need for the smile they want.

Why should I choose professional teeth whitening over the kits from the store?

Bleaching kits sold in stores stay on your teeth longer than toothpaste and contain stronger "bleach". These store-bought products do not come with the added safety of having your dentist monitoring any side effects. Vital bleaching, also called whitening, may be carried out in the dental office or the dentist may instruct the patient on how to do the bleaching at home. Products used by dentists are approved by the Canadian Dental Regulators, so they produce the best results and are safe. Dentists are trained to provide a costom treatment according to your needs. Also spot and treat the side effects that patients sometimes report during bleaching.

What are the benefits of cosmetic dentistry?

The benefits of cosmetic dentistry services can be more than just a better smile. A cosmetic dentist can make corrections in your mouth which reduce pain and discomfort, which allow proper development of teeth, and which can help restructure your mouth after an injury. Cosmetic dentistry helps to improve the functionality of your teeth and mouth and also can do wonders in improving your self-confidence. For more information about how to improve your smile please call In Path Dental.

What is the difference between general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry combines both art and science to give you a healthy, aesthetic, flawless smile. While general dentistry is aimed at maintaining the health of your teeth and gums, cosmetic dentistry provides comprehensive treatment options that improve and preserve the way your smile looks and feels.

How poor oral health can affect overall health in Seniors and Special health care needs patients?

Poor oral health may increase the number of harmful bacteria found in the mouth, which may release toxins into the blood that can damage heart tissue or develop lung infections such as pneumonia, especially for seniors who have a hard time swallowing. Poor oral health can also lead to cases of severe gum disease and loss of teeth. Gum disease may also make it harder for people with diabetes to control their blood sugar levels. Gum disease may increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Why is dental care important before, during and after Pregnancy?

It is important for you to take good care of your teeth and gums before, while and after you are pregnant. Pregnancy causes hormonal changes that boost the risk of developing gum disease which, in turn, can affect the health of your developing baby. We may recommend more frequent professional cleanings during your second or early third trimester to help reduce the chance of developing gingivitis (gum disease). Poor oral health has the risk of developing periodontitis (infection of bone holding the teeth in place). This type of infection has been associated with poor pregnancy outcomes such as delivering a preterm baby and a low birth weight. To learn more about how to protect your and your baby's health before, during and after the pregnancy please contact In Path Dental.

What is Nursing Bottle Syndrome?

Also known as baby bottle tooth decay or nursing caries, nursing bottle syndrome can result when a baby constantly takes in milk, formula, breast milk, fruit juice or sugar water, just about any liquid containing sugar. For example, sleeping throughout the night with a bottle of liquid containing formula or breast milk, increases the baby’s likelihood for developing caries. Milk has lactose, which is a type of sugar that during time transforms in acid remaining on the teeth that may encourage growth of bacteria that can cause tooth decay, an abscessed tooth or infection that may spread to other areas of the body.

What is the best way to prepare your child for the first dental appointment?

To prevent meltdowns and tantrums, we recommend that parents schedule their toddler’s first dentist visit in the morning. This is because children are typically at their best earlier in the day, so they are less likely to become upset and overwhelmed during their first pediatric dental visit if they are rested and alert. We also recommend that you become their role model at home with your oral hygiene habits and the day of the appointment. Make the first appointment a happy and adventurous visit, a fun event. Incorporate the dentist and oral hygiene into a playtime with books, videos, music and toys. Also we recommend staying calm, explaining in simple terms what is going to happen and avoid bribery with food, especially sugary treats because it will turn into a bad habit.

Do special health care needs patients have certain dental needs?

Often, special needs patients do have special dental needs. Some special health care needs patients might be more prone to tooth decay due to having some type of oral trauma, problems brushing their teeth, or through taking medication. It is important to have regular dental visits with the dentist to keep on top of any issues.

Why is it important to have regular dental cleanings and dental examinations?

Having regular dental exams helps your dentist catch problems early, when they’re much easier, less painful and less expensive to treat. Many dental diseases will not show symptoms or cause pain in the early stages. By the time you are experiencing pain or swelling, the disease has already progressed. How often you should have a dental exam depends on many different things including your unique oral health needs, your general health and lifestyle factors.

Why is Diagnostic Imaging important in a complete oral exam?

Radiographic, or X-ray, examinations provide your dentist with an important tool that shows the condition of your teeth, its roots, jaw placement and the overall composition of your facial bones. X-rays can help your dentist determine the presence or degree of periodontal (gum) disease, abscesses and many abnormal growths, such as cysts and tumors. X-rays also can show the exact location of impacted and unerupted teeth. They can pinpoint the location of cavities and other signs of disease that may not be possible to detect through a visual examination.

What is Periodontal Disease?

Gum disease, or periodontal disease is a chronic inflammation and infection of the gums and surrounding tissue. Seven out of 10 Canadians will develop gum disease at some time in their lives. It is the most common dental problem, and it can progress quite painlessly until you have a real problem. That is why it is so important to prevent gum disease before it becomes serious. Periodontal diseases include gingivitis and periodontitis.

What is Oral Cancer Screening and Velscope technology?

The VELscope System is a revolutionary hand-held device to use an adjunctive mucosal examination system for the early detection of abnormal tissue. Centers on a wireless, handheld scope that uses natural tissue fluorescence to enhance the way clinicians visualize oral mucosal abnormalities that might not be apparent or even visible to the naked eye.

Why can diagnostic tools such as CariVu help?

CariVu detect dental caries at the earliest stage before they progress further.CariVu uses transillumination technology that makes the enamel appear transparent while porous lesions absorb the light and detect caries. Uses non-ionization radiation that finds cavities beneath the tooth’s surface which is ideal for children, pregnant women, and patients who are X-ray averse. It is a great tool to help diagnosing caries but also it is important to say that it can not give the dentist the complete information the regular x-ray can provide as also we need as clinicians to diagnose what is also happening inside the bone.
